4 Ways to Stay Sane When You’re Self-Isolating With Your Partner

Staying at home for too long can take its toll on anyone, especially if you’re sharing your space with your other half.

For better or worse, lots of us have found ourselves working from home, stuck inside unable to see our friends, and spending 24 hours a day with our partner. They might be the love of your life, but staying at home together puts all those annoying flaws they have under a microscope and might just drive you crazy.

But fear not, we have come to save the day and share some top tips on how to make the most of self-isolation as a couple, and keep that spark alive at home!

1. Stay fit!

It’s pretty impossible to scroll through social media at the moment without coming across a few home workout videos to keep you fit and healthy during this time of self-isolation. We’ve particularly enjoyed watching the couples of Instagram, such as fitness fanatic Louise Thompson who is famous for her workout videos with her partner, Ryan.

2. Give each other space

This might seem obvious, but the importance of giving each other space can be easily forgotten when sharing the same four walls with someone. Eating, sleeping and chilling together 24 hours a day can get quite overwhelming, so doing things separately can help create healthy boundaries and the space you both need. You can still love and support each other even without spending every minute together,

Going for a walk outside, learning a new hobby, or reading a book are just a few of the independent things you can do separately if you want some important ‘me time’. Even working from home in separate rooms can create this healthy space, before coming back together at the end of the working day.

Just make sure there is a mutual understanding before you start doing things alone, as suddenly spending time apart with no explanation could hurt your partner and start unnecessary arguments, which are never fun when you’re stuck at home together…

3. Get dressed up and have a date night!

I don’t know about you but I always found it quite weird when the couples on Love Island dolled themselves up just to sit outside in the garden. But in the age of COVID-19, it can actually make all the difference and keep the spark alive between couples.

It’s hard not being able to have regular date nights with all restaurants and bars closed, but nothing can stop you from having a date night at home! Put on something nice, splash on some perfume and have a lovely meal together at home. The best part about it is that you don’t have to travel very far to be back in the bedroom…

4. Stay positive!

Above all, stay positive! Uncertain times like these can bring on a lot of stress and anxiety, and this can manifest itself in your relationships, whether you want it to or not.

So it’s key to stay positive and create a daily clear mind-set, whether that be through daily meditation, exercise or talking about it with your partner. Keeping a positive attitude encourages you to keep the peace and good vibes at home!
